Since you have DirectX 9 and XP Try this:
Click on 'Start'
Type in: dxdiag
and click OK.
Click on the 'Display' Tab
Click on the 'Test Direct3D' button.
After the test is complete run a 3D battle in AI Wars.
If this works then you have been bitten by the Nvidia driver upgrade installer but that incorrectly installs the nvidia driver over top of a previous driver. The best way to handle this is to remove your video drivers all the way down to the standatd VGA driver and then run the nvidia driver installer which should then correctly install the driver. For whatever reason the last few nvidia drivers have been released with this installer bug. I think it only has a problem in XP.
> 1) I have my version of AI Wars updated to v5.62 yet the 5.63 patch installer says I do not have the required version to patch?
> 2) 3D battles end before they even start. I cannot explain this, all I can say is it scripts the battle and when the engine finishes loading it goes immediately to the battle summary.
