I'm not sure, but I think that virtual reality is when a computer shows you a world that isn't there, and the research is going into making it look realistic. And A.I. is when people let a computer think(or let him simulate the ability to think).
Like in the movie the Matrix: the people are all living in a VR world (it isn't real, but they believe it is real), and that world is created/controlled by A.I. (the agents, ...)
