This is a classic “find your way through the maze” adventure—an early exploration of dungeon-crawling gameplay where survival depends on memory, patience, and a bit of luck.
Your goal is simple: collect the four keys, unlock the sealed doors, and fight your way toward escape from the dungeon. Across three complete episodes, the journey gradually reveals the deeper story behind the evil Dragon Grimlor—and the truth waiting at the end.
Originally written in 1994, this game lived in the era of Bulletin Board Systems (BBSs), when players connected to one another through dial-up modems and shared software one download at a time. It was also distributed on a single 3.5" 720K floppy disk—small in size, but wide in reach for its time.
The three-episode structure was inspired by the Apogee Software shareware model, which helped define PC gaming in that era. That approach turned out to be surprisingly successful, allowing the game to reach players around the world in a way that still felt personal and direct.
And it was a strange and exciting experience seeing orders come in from all over the globe—equal parts thrilling and slightly intimidating.
Along the way, I also learned a few practical lessons the hard way, like the importance of clearly specifying “U.S. Dollars only” and “checks drawn on U.S. funds.”
Looking back, it was more than just a game—it was my introduction to distributing software in the wild, unpredictable early days of online gaming culture.
