Strip-Off 2 for the Atari 2600

Atari VCS Console

Atari 2600 ROM (.bin file) for PC emulation or writable cartridge play.

You'll need an Atari 2600 emulator or a writable cartridge to play on real hardware. The roots of this game go back to its original version, where the core idea and inspiration were first established. Rather than reinvent it, this project became an opportunity to build on that foundation and take it further.

By this point in my journey developing for the Atari 2600, my skills had grown—and it showed. One thing became immediately clear: the original Strip Off had plenty of room to expand. The gameplay was solid, but it was just scratching the surface of what the system could offer.

So I set out to evolve it.

I added more levels, introduced variations in gameplay, and expanded the difficulty options to give players a more dynamic experience. One of the most overlooked features of the Atari 2600 is its physical switches—difficulty toggles, game select, and more. This time, I made a point to embrace them, using the hardware itself as part of the design to create a richer, more customizable experience.

What started as an upgrade turned into a more complete version of the game—something that felt truer to what it could have been all along.

And once again, the finished product found a home with Good Deal Games, my favorite retro game distributor, helping bring it to other fans of the era.

Feature List

16 Game Modes to choose from! A 1-player game where you try to keep the alien from stealing all of your planetary barrier components.

Strip-Off 2 — 2017 by John A. Reder — inspired by the old videogame Rip Off, mixed with Blockout and Space Invaders.

Objective: The game ends when all of your barrier has been stripped away by the alien, or you are shot by the alien's reflected shot on Advanced mode. You score 1 point for each alien destroyed. When you are down to 10 barrier chunks (Beginner) or 25 barrier chunks (Advanced) the alien doubles in speed! Your barrier gets replenished every 20 points at first, but increases by 2 for each two levels cleared.
